Helping Newcomer Families Navigate School Expectations & Belonging
Supporting Newcomer & Immigrant Families in the Canadian School System
Community Speaking Engagements for Parents
$500 CAD | 90-minute session + optional Q&A | Up to 60 parents
Additional sessions: $250
These community speaking engagements are designed to support newcomer and immigrant families in understanding the Canadian school system with greater clarity, confidence, and cultural respect.
Sessions are grounded in real classroom experiences and lived examples, exploring common points of confusion, cultural differences, and communication challenges that families often encounter as they navigate schools in Canada. The focus is on building understanding — not instruction — and creating space for reflection, dialogue, and shared awareness.
This is not a training or workshop. It is a facilitated speaking engagement intended to clarify expectations, highlight realities schools face, and share tangible examples of what supports positive home–school relationships.
What’s Covered
Real-world examples of how home routines, expectations, and cultural norms intersect with Canadian school environments
A clear overview of curriculum structures, report cards, and common educational pathways
Insight into differences between schooling “back home” and in Canada, and how these differences can create misunderstandings
Perspectives on major transitions, including junior high and high school, and why they are often challenging for newcomer families
Examples of effective parent–teacher communication within Canadian school contexts
Parents leave with greater clarity, increased understanding, and concrete examples to reflect on as they support their children within the Canadian education system.
Why Schools & Communities Invite These Sessions
Supports newcomer and immigrant families through clarity rather than compliance
Strengthens trust and understanding between schools and diverse communities
Helps reduce misunderstandings that can impact behaviour, attendance, and engagement
Acknowledges cultural differences without placing responsibility on school staff to navigate them alone

90-minute session with optional Q&A
Up to 60 parents
Daytime or evening availability
Printed or digital supporting materials available
